I took a leave of absence, two leaves of absence before I ended up taking this final mandatory leave of absence where everything sort of fell apart that the school put me on. But I was able to take shorter leaves of absence before, where even during a semester, I went inpatient and came back out and was able to finish that same semester and pass all my classes. So I proved to them that I was able to do the coursework, even if I'm taking these breaks now and then, and that the breaks are really important because sometimes, for example, one was for like medication management. So there's a reason that I take a leave of absence during school, but down the line, they kind of ended up putting me on a leave of absence that was mandatory by them after After I had kind of discussed with them, hey, okay, I'm going to go inpatient proactively. This is what I'm going to do with all my courses. I arranged having someone bring materials to me inpatient because I couldn't have a computer or anything like that. And so I planned that whole thing out.
Imagine being on the path to becoming a doctor, only to have your dreams shattered by the stigma surrounding your mental health. That's Carly's story. Carly, a life coach and former medical student, opens up about her journey with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and the hurdles she faced in the traditional medical field. Dismissed from her program after taking a mental health leave, Carly's experience highlights the harsh realities of discrimination within the education system.
But she didn't let that stop her. Instead, she turned to alternative healthcare and psychedelics, particularly dextromethorphan, to find healing for herself and her clients. In this episode, Carly shares how these experiences have shaped her approach to mental health and advocacy. She dives into the complexities of medication management and the need for greater understanding and support for those living with BPD.
Whether you're curious about the impact of psychedelics on mental health or want to hear a story of resilience and advocacy, Carly's journey offers valuable insights and inspiration.
