Xeana Kamalani Dung: From Hawaiian Roots to Pro Softball Stardom
I think my big thing is, I'm thankful that I came from a small town.
Meet Xeana Kamalani Dung, a remarkable young woman who's breaking barriers and making history as the first pro league pitcher in softball from Hawaii. In this episode of 'Rebuilding the Beast', host Festus Ezeli sits down with Xeana, also known as Kama, to uncover her incredible journey. Growing up in the modest town of Makaha, often described as the ghetto, Xeana faced numerous challenges, including poverty and the pressures of being a female athlete.
Despite these obstacles, her parents encouraged her to pursue her dreams beyond their hometown, leading her to earn full scholarships to Fresno State and UC Berkeley. Xeana opens up about the hardest parts of growing up poor and how she managed to rise above it all. She also discusses the frustrations and triumphs of being a female pro athlete and how she almost lost her mom to a stroke, which was a turning point in her life.
Through it all, Xeana discovered her 'why'—her purpose—and founded Kama Training to give back to her community. Her story is one of resilience, hard work, and finding inspiration in the face of adversity. Tune in to hear how Xeana's journey can inspire you to find your own 'why'.
