Sobriety is just a big self-discovery journey. I do know myself a lot more, and I'm more happy to be who I want to be rather than who I was not trying to be someone else as such but you are doing things that are against what you really want to be doing which creates conflict in your head so there's a lot less of that going on and yeah, I'm just a lot more at peace, man.
Have you ever thought about how coaching could help you quit drinking? In this episode of The Alcohol ReThink Podcast, Patrick Fox chats with James Bell, who reached out for help after a particularly heavy drinking summer in 2022. James had tried to quit multiple times but always found himself back in the same cycle. This time, he decided to seek coaching from Patrick, and the results have been life-changing.
James opens up about his struggles with the stop-start cycle of drinking and the beliefs that kept him hooked. He talks about the fears he faced when considering sobriety and the societal pressures that made quitting even harder. But through coaching, he discovered the value of taking a break and exploring why he drank in the first place.
One of the key points discussed is the paradox of alcohol – what it seems to give versus what it actually takes away. James shares how he learned to have compassion for his past self and the importance of conversations in his journey. He also highlights some of the coaching tools and exercises that made a significant difference for him, such as getting out of his head and giving his sobriety a purpose.
Since stopping drinking, James has experienced profound changes in his outlook on life, his relationships, and his mental clarity. His story is a testament to the power of coaching and the transformative journey of self-discovery that comes with rethinking alcohol.
