Brian Tierney: Balancing Recovery and Creativity Through Service
Finding something- whether for me it was creative expression, if it's exercise, whatever hobby you find, whatever it is, it's important to find something that you can express yourself through in a way that's helpful, so that you're gonna experience difficult emotions in recovery, especially in early recovery, and to have an outlet for that, I think, is really important.
Brian Tierney brings a refreshing perspective to the table as he chats with Curt Neider and Shelley Mangum in this episode of the Illuminate Recovery Podcast. Brian shares his journey of maintaining personal recovery while actively working in the recovery field. He emphasizes the transformative power of creative expression, particularly through his involvement with Colorado Artists in Recovery and Recovery Café.
Brian's story is a testament to the importance of finding a healthy outlet for complex emotions, which can often feel overwhelming during the recovery process. He dives into his experiences of overcoming a scarcity mindset and insecurity, highlighting how the Red Rock Recovery Center played a pivotal role in helping him and others find balance.
This episode isn't just about Brian's personal journey; it also explores the broader challenges of making a living in the recovery industry, the invaluable benefits of peer support, and the crucial need for maintaining balance. If you're curious about how art can aid in recovery or seeking inspiration from someone who's walked the path, this episode offers both insight and encouragement.
