Zack Chisholm's Battle with Shame and Addiction: A Story of Recovery

I think it's important for people listening to the show that alcohol may not be your doc, but if you're struggling with identity issues and anxiety, you've got a doc somewhere, because that's a miserable way to go through life.
What happens when the weight of shame becomes too much to bear? Zack Chisholm knows all too well. In this episode of 'Project Recovery', Zack joins Casey Scott and Dr. Matt Woolley to share his deeply personal journey from feeling ashamed as a child to battling addiction as an adult. Growing up, Zack struggled with introversion and turned to alcohol in his teenage years to cope.
His path took a sharp turn when he was disfellowshipped from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during his mission, leading him to numb the pain with drugs and alcohol. This downward spiral eventually cost him his professional golfing career. Zack opens up about hitting rock bottom after a New Year's party in 2021, a moment that pushed him to seek help at Renaissance Ranch. The pandemic only added fuel to the fire, exacerbating his addiction.
But Zack's story is also one of hope and resilience. He talks about the importance of letting go of long-held resentments and finding a supportive community. He emphasizes that addiction isn't just about substances; it often stems from deeper issues like identity and anxiety. This episode isn't just for those struggling with addiction but for anyone grappling with feelings of shame or self-doubt.
Zack's candidness offers a glimmer of hope, showing that recovery is possible with the right support and mindset.
