Rethinking Discipline: Why Beating Children Isn't the Answer

As parents, we have been making very many jokes online and sending memes and just mocking the current education curriculum, which is called cbc, meaning competency based curriculum. The theory of this curriculum is good, however, the implementation is quite another matter. And then they're supposed to have the following eight values inculcated: love, responsibility, respect, unity, peace, patriotism, social justice and integrity. Instead, I had very well taught them pain induced compliance.
What if the traditional methods of disciplining children are doing more harm than good? In this episode of 'Today's African Mom Podcast', host Mrs. D, a counseling psychologist, tackles the controversial topic of corporal punishment. She sheds light on why beating children is not only ineffective but also detrimental to their development. Drawing from her professional experience and recent events in high schools, Mrs. D explains how physical punishment impacts a child's brain and emotional well-being.
Instead of resorting to pain, she advocates for positive discipline techniques that foster growth and understanding. Mrs. D also discusses the new competency-based curriculum (CBC) in African schools, emphasizing the importance of teaching values over enforcing compliance through fear. This episode is a must-listen for parents seeking to nurture their children's growth in a healthy and constructive way.
