I don't think you get to say you've tried AA until you've been through all the steps thoroughly with a sponsor and you're out there working with others.
Paul H.'s story is one of those tales that stays with you long after you've heard it. Starting with a high bottom, Paul didn't initially see himself as an alcoholic. Life, however, had other plans. When things got tough enough, he decided to give Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) a try. In his own words, Paul sought to get closer to 'whatever changed me from not being able to go a day without a drink, to feeling somewhat tranquil today'.
His journey is a raw, unfiltered look at the challenges and triumphs of recovery. Paul’s commitment to AA wasn't just about attending meetings; he threw himself into the program, tackling all the steps with a sponsor and working tirelessly to help others. This dedication brought him closer to a life he never thought possible. Beyond the meetings and steps, Paul found solace in faith, running, and his church community.
These elements became pillars in his new life, offering support and a sense of belonging. His candid reflections on dealing with depression and anxiety add depth to his narrative, showing that recovery is not just about quitting alcohol but rebuilding one’s entire life. Paul's story is more than just a tale of overcoming addiction; it's about discovering who you are and what you can achieve when you commit to change.
Whether you're on your own recovery journey or supporting someone who is, Paul's experiences offer hope, practical insights, and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
