Victoria H's Journey: From Trauma to 30 Years of Sobriety

So being an alcoholic addict and how crazy of an alcoholic I am, I mean I don't have to have drugs, just the alcohol. So I've really really have to work a very hard program.
Victoria H's life story is nothing short of extraordinary. She began drinking at a young age to escape the abuse she faced at home and the traumatic events she witnessed as a teenager, including a horrifying massacre in the Philippines. Her early life was a whirlwind of constant moves, thanks to her military family, and a volatile home environment with a bipolar mother and an abusive father.
Alcohol became her escape, a way to numb the pain and chaos that seemed to follow her everywhere. By the time she found Alcoholics Anonymous in 1992, her body and spirit were worn down by years of heavy drinking. But Victoria's story is one of incredible resilience. She not only found sobriety but has maintained it for over 30 years.
In this episode of 'AA Recovery Interviews', hosted by Howard L., Victoria opens up about her journey from those dark days to a life filled with hope and purpose. She talks about the crucial role AA played in her recovery, the importance of service work, and how spirituality has been a cornerstone of her sobriety. Victoria's husband, Wes H., who also shared his story on an earlier episode, got sober just days apart from her.
Their shared journey adds a unique layer to their individual stories, showing the power of community and mutual support in overcoming addiction. This episode is a must-listen for anyone dealing with addiction or supporting someone who is. Victoria's candidness about her struggles and triumphs offers invaluable insights into the challenges of staying sober and the rewards that come with it.
Her story is a beacon of hope, proving that no matter how deep the darkness, there is always a path to the light.
