I can't live on my own. I can't do this. I can't do that. Wow. You know, it's interesting. A couple of things pop in my mind. And one is when people say, oh, well, why do you stay? Well, first, there's what's called trauma bonding, which we actually did a program on that if you want to go back and listen to it. And when you don't learn it, like for my family, it was very codependent. And I always felt like I was stuck in other kind of things people wanted me to do. And I remember a psychologist saying that for most people, we understand that we have choices, but for some people, they don't even realize they have a choice. You don't even think that you have a choice.
Robin Padilla's story is one of remarkable transformation. In this episode of 'Genuine Life Recovery with Jodie Stevens', Robin, the founder of Damsel in Defense, opens up about her harrowing experiences with domestic violence, both as a child and in an abusive marriage. Her narrative isn't just about survival; it's about reclaiming power and finding strength in the darkest of times.
Robin discusses the profound impact childhood trauma can have on adulthood and the subtle yet dangerous traits that may signal a potential abuser. She sheds light on the cycle of abuse, breaking down its complexities in a way that's both relatable and eye-opening. But Robin doesn't stop at sharing her past; she equips listeners with practical advice on mental and physical self-defense.
From recognizing red flags to understanding what perpetrators look for in a victim, her insights are invaluable for anyone seeking to protect themselves or support someone in a similar situation. Robin also introduces various safety tools and self-defense techniques, demonstrating how these can be lifesaving for women in violent relationships. This episode is more than just a discussion—it's a powerful call to action.
Robin's journey from victim to victorious is a testament to human resilience and the transformative power of self-defense. Whether you're looking for inspiration, practical advice, or both, this episode offers a wealth of information and hope.
