Championing Veterans: Mental Health and Wellness at Community Healthcore

Our main focus, though, is in engaging with veterans before they get to that point. So that's our focus, and that's why y 'all are so focused on prevention and outreach, right, being proactive and going out and engaging with the veterans and contact them, and letting them know that we're there so that the veteran has an opportunity, that if something does become a problem, they can reach out, hopefully sooner than later.
Ever wondered how to approach a veteran who seems hesitant to seek help? In this episode of 'Learn MORE with the CORE', Wallice Revalee, the veterans program supervisor at Community Healthcore, shares invaluable insights into the services provided for veterans and the program's future goals. The discussion spans peer services, housing navigation, and dental care tailored specifically for veterans in northeast Texas and beyond.
One of the standout features of this program is its focus on culturally competent staff who can effectively engage veterans and help them navigate mental health care. Revalee emphasizes the importance of outreach and prevention, aiming to support veterans before they reach a crisis point. The episode also sheds light on overcoming common barriers like mistrust and reluctance among veterans to seek help.
With partnerships like the Texas Veterans Commission, the program offers a variety of services, including a suicide prevention grant. Whether you're a veteran, a family member, or someone interested in veteran care, this episode provides a comprehensive look at how Community Healthcore is making a difference in the lives of our heroes.
