Building a Supportive Campus: UTD's Center for Students in Recovery

What we do is provide a safe space for students who are in recovery to come hang out. We have a lot of support from some of the faculty and staff.
Ever wondered how college students in recovery manage to balance academics and sobriety? In this episode of 'M2 The Rock', Michael Molthan sits down with Jeremy Eicke, the Collegiate Recovery Program Manager at the University of Texas at Dallas, and Andrew Byers, a student who has firsthand experience with the program. They dive into the challenges and triumphs of maintaining recovery while navigating college life.
Jeremy and Andrew share how UTD's Center for Students in Recovery (CSR) offers a haven for students who are working hard to stay sober. From peer support to faculty involvement, the CSR provides a robust network that helps students thrive both academically and personally. They also discuss the staggering statistic that 90% of substance use issues begin between ages 12 and 20, highlighting the crucial role of collegiate recovery programs.
Listeners will gain insight into how these programs foster a sense of community and belonging, making it easier for students to stay on track. Jeremy and Andrew also talk about the importance of allies in recovery and the various resources available on campus, including Narcan implementation. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in how educational institutions can support students battling addiction. Whether you're a student, parent, or educator, you'll find valuable information and inspiration in their conversation.
