Art and Healing: Holly Gittlein's Journey with MY House

In my house is like a beacon of that in this valley in the state. They're not things that are common knowledge necessarily, but for a kid with anxiety or depression, it can be really, really helpful and- and I think sometimes we miss that- we get too focused on the concrete, you know, objectives of finishing high school and learning to drive and getting a license and the check the box things, and we kind of forget about their their little soul that sometimes just needs to weld a big metal tree in the parking lot right or or do some mosaicing with a whole group of kids.
Picture this: a youth drop-in center in Wasilla, Alaska, where art and compassion blend to create a haven for young people facing life's toughest challenges. In this episode of The MY House Podcast, Michelle Overstreet sits down with Holly Gittlein, a local artist who's been a cornerstone of MY House since its early days. Together, they take a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about the center's humble beginnings and the transformative projects Holly has spearheaded over the years.
But it's not just about the past; they dive into the present too, exploring how art therapy is making waves in addressing anxiety and depression among the youth. Holly shares heartfelt stories of how these creative outlets have not only benefited the young people but also enriched her own life. This conversation is a testament to the power of community support and the incredible impact that MY House continues to have.
Whether you're an art enthusiast, someone interested in mental health, or just curious about the magic happening at MY House, this episode is packed with insights and inspiration.
