Mal's Journey: Overcoming Addiction and Eating Disorders in the LGBTQ+ Community

For me, I knew from a really young age where I stood with my sexuality... And then two also, I feel like so many people can relate to, I guess, trying to date like somebody who is, you know, opposite sex or, you know, trying to fit in.
Imagine facing the dual challenge of substance abuse and an eating disorder from a young age. That's the reality Mal, this week's guest on 'Proud Voices', bravely shares. Starting with an eating disorder at 14 and her first drink at 16, Mal's struggles were deeply intertwined. It wasn't until 12 years later that she sought the help she needed, and she has been sober since January 26, 2016.
Hosted by the compassionate duo Kaylee Hoaby and Luke Miller, this episode dives into Mal's candid story of recovery within the LGBTQ+ community. She opens up about the complexities of addiction and mental health, emphasizing the importance of seeking support and professional help. Mal also touches on her journey of coming out, finding self-acceptance, and the ongoing battle with body image and self-esteem. Her story is a powerful reminder that recovery is a continuous process requiring vulnerability, self-reflection, and self-care.
Tune in to hear how Mal navigates these challenges and the role of community in her journey towards healing.
