Ever wondered how a simple childhood game could lead to a life of addiction? Randy's story on Steppin' Out Radio takes you on a rollercoaster journey from innocent baseball card flips to the high-stakes world of gambling. Growing up in New York's Long Island, Randy was always drawn to 'the action'. Early mornings at school were spent flipping baseball cards, where he felt the thrill of turning five cards into a hundred.
But what started as fun soon spiraled out of control. As a teenager, Randy's proximity to Atlantic City meant frequent trips to casinos, sometimes gambling so much that he couldn't even afford tolls for the drive back home. His addiction grew, leading him to quit jobs and plan vacations solely around casino towns. The stakes got higher, and so did his debts, even causing his mother to be wary of debt collectors sent by bookies.
Randy's rock bottom came when he mishandled money while trying to help a family friend sell a car. It was a wake-up call that led him to seek help. Initially resistant to treatment, especially one out-of-state, Randy eventually found the right program that changed his life.
