Shawn Livingston: From Battlefields to Ultra Marathons and Recovery Coaching

But finding an activity or something I could do in my life that I was finding so much benefit from, but something where, when I'm going out to do a trail run, there's other people running and there's other people in the race, but like it's me versus me, and so doing something like you know my first ultra marathon or even my first race, and coming to understand that I was capable, could, because I only identified as Sean the dope, um, you know I didn't, I didn't think I was anything more than that.
Ever wondered how a veteran overcomes the grip of addiction and transforms his life through ultra marathons? In this episode of 'Talksicology', host Jason Cabello chats with Shawn Livingston, Executive Director of Active Recovery Coaching. Shawn shares his gripping journey from a tumultuous upbringing and military service marred by addiction, to finding solace and strength in running. Running didn't just help Shawn beat his addiction; it became a lifeline that improved his mental and physical health.
He dives into the profound impact that ultra marathons had on his recovery, providing both a challenge and a sense of accomplishment that kept him going. Shawn also opens up about his role as a recovery coach, where he uses his personal experiences to guide others on their paths to sobriety. And if you're curious about his latest project, Shawn discusses his upcoming documentary aimed at shedding light on the struggles and triumphs of those battling addiction.
