Shari's Path to Recovery: Finding Strength in Spirituality and Service

But the entire time, honestly, the thing that took me out this time, I think, was that, like I was not, I was taking suggestions from people in the program, right like. And for a long time I really believed that my eating disorder and my alcoholism were like my two best friends and I was in such a lonely place that, like, that was all I had to keep me company, or that's all that I let keep me company.
Ever wondered how spirituality and service can play a role in overcoming addiction? In this episode of 'Missed the Mark', Mark Perry sits down with Shari, the podcast's first female guest, to explore her remarkable journey to sobriety. Shari opens up about her struggles with addiction, sharing candidly about the guilt and shame she faced from growing up in a strict household to her college years.
Her story is a testament to perseverance and finding hope even in the darkest times. A key theme in Shari's recovery is her relationship with a higher power. She explains how spirituality provided her with the strength and courage needed to confront her addiction head-on. By being honest with herself and accepting help from others, she found a path to peace and fulfillment. Shari also discusses the significant impact of service work on her sobriety.
Taking on service commitments kept her connected to the recovery community and offered a sense of purpose, especially during tough times like the quarantine. Through these commitments, she found support and maintained her sobriety. The episode wraps up with Shari sharing tips on staying connected and engaged with the fellowship during challenging periods, such as the isolation brought on by the pandemic.
Her story is an inspiring reminder that recovery is possible with honesty, openness, and a willingness to seek support. Tune in to hear Shari's full story and find out how you too can find strength and hope on your journey to sobriety.
