Being with other parents is being with people who really get it and that helps me a lot. I've met some incredible people. I can help other people and I feel better every time I just talk about all this stuff with my group. Even when my son isn't doing so well we seem to be okay. Talking with other parents helps me stay sane and not to feel so lost and alone.
Parenting a child with a substance use disorder is no walk in the park. In this episode of 'My Child & Addiction', a group of parents open up about the stress that comes with this challenging journey. Joined by Dan Westerman, a family therapist from Caron Treatment Centers, these parents discuss their personal battles with stress and how it affects their daily lives. Some parents are in recovery themselves, adding another layer of complexity to their stories.
They talk candidly about the sleepless nights, constant worry, and the emotional toll of watching their children struggle. But it's not all doom and gloom. These parents also highlight the importance of community support and professional guidance. They share how joining support groups has provided them with a lifeline, offering both practical advice and emotional comfort. Self-care and coping strategies are also key topics, with parents discussing how they find moments of peace and resilience amidst the chaos.
This episode is a raw and honest look at the realities of parenting children with addiction, offering hope and solidarity to anyone facing similar challenges.
