Bonnie P.: From Isolation to Inspiration in Sobriety
You know, it's like being able to, just like powerfully, be myself and unapologetic about it. So I fucking shoplifted these curtains with Almost Ten Years, Almost Ten Years sober. And and I had fought the impulse to just go make amends immediately, because I know those amends do not typically turn out very well, the ones I do without the guidance of a sponsor or someone, anyone in the program, and so I went in and and I took out the curtains and I was like, well, first I did a little more shopping.
Bonnie P.'s story is a riveting tale of transformation and resilience. In this episode of 'The Pink House Chronicles', she shares her journey from feeling like an outsider to embracing a life of sobriety. Growing up, Bonnie often felt like she didn't belong, and she turned to alcohol and drugs for comfort. Her first real drunk at a wedding marked the beginning of a tumultuous path of addiction. But Bonnie's story doesn't end there.
She speaks candidly about the pivotal role a higher power played in her recovery, helping her find the strength to work through the 12 Steps with a sponsor. Relapse and regret were part of her journey, but so was the powerful act of making amends, which she describes as a humbling and transformative experience.
One particularly striking moment she shares is about shoplifting curtains nearly ten years into her sobriety, and how making amends for that act was both challenging and enlightening. Bonnie's narrative is raw and heartfelt, offering hope and inspiration to anyone grappling with addiction or supporting a loved one through it. Her story is a testament to the power of recovery and the possibility of finding one's true self in sobriety.
