We've really, as a society and a culture, drifted really far away from some very important aspects of the storytelling and the community that really used to help cultures thrive, and I believe that that's a real source of where a lot of the really bad abuse that people have suffered in our modern world stems from that core whole that currently exists in our society.
Ever felt like an outsider in your own family? Arthur Crowell from Minnetonka, Minnesota, knows that feeling all too well. Growing up as the only male child in a matriarchal family system riddled with abuse across three generations, Art often wondered about the hidden stories that made his family so dysfunctional. Now, he's sharing his journey on this episode of 'Stop Child Abuse Now' (SCAN).
Art’s life took a transformative turn in adulthood when he became acutely aware of the long-lasting impact of generational abuse. Starting his own family, he faced new challenges as his wife and three daughters came from similarly abusive backgrounds. Tragically, their middle daughter struggled deeply, spending years in and out of hospitals and treatment facilities. Determined to make a difference, Art and his wife formed an organization aimed at advocating for children's rights.
Though political support waned, Art’s commitment never did. In this episode, he talks about the importance of mental health support for both children and parents, and the complex journey through the court and mental health systems. Art also delves into how spirituality and connecting with nature have been vital in his healing process. He emphasizes the need to break the cycle of abuse through skill-building and awareness, sharing his own experiences and offering coaching to other survivors.
