I want to help keep other children from experiencing what I went through. We kind of went back and forth between the states and overseas... my family decided to move here in Kansas because my grandmother lived here at the time, and we thought that would be nice to have to be close to family after being overseas and being gone so much.
Kim Bergman’s story is one of profound courage and resilience. As a survivor of child sexual abuse by her gymnastics coach, Kim opens up about the lasting impact this trauma had on her life, relationships, and career. Despite the abuse being substantiated by child protective services, the District Attorney chose not to press charges, allowing her abuser to continue working with children until his arrest a decade later.
This episode of 'Stop Child Abuse Now' dives into Kim’s struggles and triumphs as she sought justice and found her voice. Joining a national lawsuit against USA Gymnastics in 2018 was a turning point for Kim, not just in seeking compensation but in pushing for systemic changes to protect other children.
Her involvement in the lawsuit empowered her to speak out publicly, eventually leading her to become a member of the RAINN Speakers Bureau and an advocate for legislative changes in Kansas. Kim's story is a testament to the power of speaking out and fighting for change, offering hope and inspiration to other survivors.
