Step One: Embracing Powerlessness for Lasting Recovery

The steps to me are a practical application of the atonement of Jesus Christ, doing for me what I cannot do for myself, helping me rid these things out, working alongside of a therapist to help me to develop my contact with my higher power, to help me rid these things that are afflicting me, that are a ball and chain, emotionally and spiritually, that I've been dragging around, that I try to numb out.
Feeling overwhelmed by addiction or watching a loved one struggle can be incredibly tough. Rick and Christine Dixon, hosts of the Family Addiction Recovery Podcast, dive deep into this challenge with their guests, Lane Porter CMHC and Dave Belt. In this episode, they tackle Step One of recovery, which is all about recognizing powerlessness over addiction and how life becomes unmanageable because of it.
Lane and Dave share their personal journeys through addiction and recovery, shedding light on what their families did right and wrong along the way. Lane, now a licensed mental health counselor, brings his professional insights as an intake specialist, offering practical advice for families trying to encourage a loved one to seek help. They discuss everything from setting boundaries and dealing with codependency to the transformative role of faith and the atonement in recovery.
The episode is packed with actionable tips and heartfelt stories, making it a must-listen for anyone affected by addiction. Whether you're seeking help for yourself or trying to support someone else, this episode offers hope and guidance on the path to recovery.
