Pride and Sobriety: Amy C. Willis on Celebrating Without Alcohol

I think that part of that is the messaging that we get from big alcohol. Like all the drink responsibly messaging like that, I think, entirely hoists, like all the responsibility onto the person who s drinking and places zero responsibility on the fact that, again, this is like a very addictive, very toxic substance and we re frankly not even given all the information about it to make an informed decision.
Ever wondered how Pride celebrations can be just as vibrant without alcohol? In this engaging episode of 'Clear & Present', host Bryen Fulcher sits down with Amy C. Willis, a Sobriety & Mindset Coach, to explore the intersection of Pride festivities and sobriety. Amy, who has been sober for over five years after battling alcohol addiction for 15 years and losing her father to it, brings a wealth of personal experience and professional insight to the conversation.
They discuss why alcohol is so deeply embedded in 2SLGBTQ communities and offer practical solutions for harm reduction during Pride events. Amy shares her journey of reclaiming her power and freedom through sobriety, highlighting the importance of radical honesty, mindset transformation, and resilience building. With a background in HIV prevention research and a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, she combines her academic knowledge with her coaching expertise to support others on their path to sobriety.
The discussion delves into the effects of alcohol on the brain, the role of big alcohol in perpetuating harmful drinking habits, and how trauma and coping mechanisms often intersect with addiction. Amy challenges the conventional 'drink responsibly' messaging and calls for a more honest dialogue about alcohol consumption. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to celebrate Pride in a way that honors their commitment to sobriety and personal growth.
Whether you're part of the 2SLGBTQ community or an ally, this conversation offers valuable insights into creating safer, more inclusive spaces for sober individuals. Tune in to learn how you can support yourself and others in living clear and present.
