Greg Johnson: A Journey from Addiction to Spiritual Awakening

I believe that when we are sick and tired of being sick and tired, we are sick and tired of the pain that there is this experience, this spiritual experience that awaits us, this spiritual experience that awaits us- and if we just say yes to it, right, this willingness to endeavor, to create a relationship with something that's greater than ourselves, that serves us so beautifully.
What happens when addiction hits close to home? Greg Johnson knows this all too well. Growing up with a father who battled addiction, Greg's early years were marked by confusion and fear. His father's erratic behavior was a mystery until Greg received a life-changing call in college—his father had overdosed. Just two months later, his uncle took his own life after a drinking binge.
The weight of these tragedies pushed Greg into the very cycle he feared, turning to alcohol and drugs to cope. But Greg's story doesn't end in despair. After multiple arrests and stints in treatment programs, he experienced a moment of clarity that set him on a path to recovery. Now, with over 15 years of sobriety under his belt, Greg is a Sober Mentor and Licensed Spiritual Practitioner.
In this episode of 'Sober Nation FM', he opens up about the pivotal role spirituality played in his journey to sobriety. Greg emphasizes the power of community and the importance of building a relationship with a higher power. He shares how saying 'yes' to a spiritual experience can be transformative when you're at your lowest point. For Greg, spirituality isn't about following a specific doctrine but finding a practice that resonates personally.
His story is a testament to the healing power of spirituality and community in overcoming addiction. Whether you're struggling with addiction or supporting someone who is, Greg's insights offer hope and practical advice. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to understand the profound impact spirituality can have on the journey to sobriety.
