Joseph W. Naus: From Legal Success to Sobriety - A Tale of Redemption

The thing is that, as I was listening to Joseph share a story on the other podcast, on rich rolls, I just remember driving and listening to it and thinking it's terrifying how much I can relate to this story.
Joseph W. Naus' life reads like a rollercoaster of triumphs and tribulations. Growing up in Southern California's Inland Empire, Joseph faced a tough childhood, raised by a young mother battling heroin addiction and depression. Despite these challenges, he graduated from Pepperdine Law and passed the Bar Exam in 1997, climbing the ranks to become a respected civil trial lawyer with a six-figure salary.
But at age 32, his American Dream took a sharp turn for the worse when his sex and alcohol addictions spiraled out of control. In this episode of The Recovery Revolution, Joseph sits down with host Omar Pinto to share his gripping journey from the heights of legal success to the depths of addiction, and ultimately, to recovery.
Joseph recounts the fateful day that marked the end of his former life: 'On Tuesday, I was a respected civil trial lawyer making six-figures. On Wednesday, I woke up handcuffed to a hospital bed… and then it got worse'. His story doesn't end there. Joseph's path to sobriety involved picking up the pieces of his shattered life, from picking up trash on film sets to selling outdoor kitchens at home shows.
Along the way, he found humility, community support, and a renewed sense of purpose. Today, Joseph lives in Echo Park, Los Angeles, with his girlfriend and cat, dedicating much of his time to writing, helping fellow addicts recover, and perfecting his golf swing. His memoir, 'Straight Pepper Diet', captures his journey in raw detail. This episode is a candid exploration of the transformative power of self-reflection and community support.
It's a must-listen for anyone grappling with addiction or supporting someone who is.
