Bonnie Pelletier Donahue: Balancing Sobriety and Bar Ownership with Yoga
And what I love the most about Bonnie's story is how she shares about recovery and the impact it's had in her life and now in the lives of her entire family.
Ever wondered how someone can own a bar and still stay sober? Bonnie Pelletier Donahue's story is a testament to resilience and transformation. Once caught in the throes of heavy drinking, marijuana, and cocaine use, Bonnie faced two failed marriages and the heart-wrenching loss of custody of her youngest daughter. Her family distanced themselves, leaving her feeling isolated and lost. But Bonnie’s journey didn’t end there.
She found a lifeline in Y12SR yoga—a unique blend of yoga and the 12-step recovery program. Now a certified instructor and the founder of Bonifide Yoga, Bonnie has dedicated her life to helping others find their path to recovery through mindfulness and community support. Despite owning a dive bar inherited from her father, she has managed to maintain her sobriety since October 16, 2011.
In this episode of The SHAIR Recovery Podcast, Bonnie shares her incredible journey from addiction to recovery. She talks about the importance of mindfulness, meditation, and community in her healing process. Bonnie also discusses the challenges of owning a bar while staying sober and how she uses yoga to stay grounded. Her story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, even in the most challenging circumstances.
