  • His experiences of discrimination and the challenges of coming out in the early 90s in Alabama
  • The descent into addiction and the profound losses suffered during the struggle
  • The pivotal moment of reaching rock bottom and crying out for help
  • His dedication to volunteering at a homeless shelter and commitment to giving back
The first one is you're not alone. People don't hate you. I had a really dear friend who flat out said to me, nobody loves me. Nobody wants me. I'm not going to be here. It just broke my heart to hear him say that. So that's the first thing I would say to people. You're not alone. Reach out. If you're at least trying, people will help you. If the people you're talking to aren't helping you, find other people. But the first thing, you're not alone.
Imagine losing everything you hold dear within a span of two years. That's what happened to Scott Coolidge, whose journey through recovery from Crystal Meth is nothing short of remarkable. Growing up in Alabama, Scott faced the challenges of coming out as gay in a conservative environment during the early 90s. These formative years were tough, marked by discrimination and societal pressures that eventually led him down a dark path of addiction.
His descent into meth use began innocently enough—introducing his boyfriend to friends who used drugs—but quickly spiraled into a daily struggle. In just over two years, Scott lost his home, his salon, and even his dream car. At rock bottom, he found himself crying out for help, a moment that would become a turning point in his life. With the unwavering support of his mother and a new spiritual community, Scott began to rebuild.
He emphasizes that recovery isn't a one-size-fits-all journey; it's deeply personal and unique to each individual. Today, Scott is not just surviving; he's thriving. He's studying for his Master's in Social Work with aspirations to become a licensed clinical social worker and perhaps even teach at the college level. His commitment to volunteering at a homeless shelter highlights his passion for giving back.
Scott's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of community support, gratitude, and hope in the recovery process. His journey from rock bottom to a beacon of resilience offers invaluable insights for anyone facing similar struggles.
