For me, it's more aimed at those who do have children and maybe don't understand the impacts that it's having on their child, and hoping that, in a sense, it makes them realize that actually, while the child might be a very young child, the thoughts in the head are everything that I've just said previously, and they are wanting to fix their parents. Get the help that you need to fix it so that you can be there with your kid for a lot longer than my mum was with me.
Imagine facing the challenges of childhood while dealing with a parent's alcohol addiction. In this episode of 'Sobriety Unplugged', hosts Sharon Hartley and Ben Anderson sit down with Sara Britcliffe, the MP for Hyndburn & Haslingden. Elected to Parliament at just 24, Sara steps away from her political role to share a deeply personal story about her mother's struggle with alcohol. This isn't just a tale of hardship; it's a testament to resilience and the importance of support systems.
Sara opens up about the emotional rollercoaster of growing up with an addicted parent and the long-lasting impact it has had on her life. She hopes her story will resonate with others facing similar situations, encouraging them to seek help and break the cycle of addiction. Sara's candidness provides a rare glimpse into the often-hidden effects of alcohol dependency on families, especially children. This episode is a poignant reminder that behind every statistic, there's a human story worth listening to.
