Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves. Me too. Cool. I look at my long arms hanging down beside me and I appear small, young, all of a sudden it's just a little girl again. I feel so fucking stupid. I walk through my mudroom door with the new ink on my wrist. It's wrapped up and I hope that no one asks to see it. Ever. There at the kitchen island, quietly playing some sort of board game. Mommy! Mom! Let's see the tag! Yeah, I wanna see! Okay, I guess maybe I can't hide it forever. Okay, hold on. Calm down. What's with the theatrics? Let's see it. I can already see the look on Matt's face. He'll probably give me a fake smile and say something positive, but the kids won't be able to hide their feelings. That's the good thing about children. They're like little vials of truth serum.
Betsy has reached a significant milestone—90 days of sobriety—and she's marking the occasion in a way that truly reflects her journey. In this final episode of Season 2 of 'f*cking sober', Betsy heads to a tattoo parlour to get her very first ink. As she sits in the chair, her thoughts wander through the highs and lows of her recovery. It's a moment of celebration, but also one filled with deep reflection and raw honesty.
She grapples with the weight of her decision, feeling the newfound freedom that sobriety brings while also confronting the lingering challenges that come with it. Through her interactions with her children and friends, and her contemplation of past behaviours, Betsy shows both vulnerability and strength. This episode is a powerful portrayal of personal growth, capturing the essence of what it means to face your inner struggles head-on and come out stronger on the other side.
With music from artists in recovery adding depth to the narrative, this episode is a fitting end to a season that has been as enlightening as it has been entertaining.
