Dominique's Journey: From Prescription Pills to Helping Others Heal
My message is: I'd never compare your recovery with someone else's. We were all battling, we were all the same inside and I met so many great people that it was meant for me to be at that such intensive type of clinic, because I gave people hope like wow, if someone that I'd go before work every morning to get my medicine in my business suit, you know.
Imagine being in so much pain that you need surgery, and then finding yourself trapped in a cycle of prescription pill addiction. That’s the story Dominique shares on this episode of 'Sober Gratitudes'. It all started in 2010 when Dominique underwent surgery for a painful medical condition. The prescribed medications that were meant to help her recover ended up leading her down a dark path of addiction.
She found herself obsessively counting pills and even stealing them from a sick relative, consumed by shame and fear of being discovered. An accidental overdose was her wake-up call, pushing her to seek help before it was too late. Now, Dominique has turned her life around and is dedicated to helping others who are struggling with opioid addiction. She’s about to launch a new website, Unique Pivot, and is active on Instagram, offering support and encouragement to those in need.
In her conversation with Sarah Elizabeth, Dominique talks about the emotional toll of addiction, the importance of seeking help, and the tools she uses to stay on track. She emphasizes the value of natural coping mechanisms and anonymous support systems. Her message is clear: don’t compare your recovery to anyone else’s, and lean into the support available to you. This episode is a beacon of hope for anyone battling addiction or supporting someone who is.
