Jack Grisham on Recovery, Faith, and Self-Acceptance with Dayna Keyes

The worst time of being sober is when the drugs and the alcohol have stopped and the steps have not kicked in. Some people come in and they quit everything and they're happy. It took me a long time to be ok with what, like. I just sounded like the biggest asshole, because I was, you know, and that's what trips me out about Today. It was like the old guys who said: take the cotton out of your ears and stick it in your mouth.
Ever wondered how someone with over 30 years of sobriety views the journey of recovery? In this episode of 'Radio Rehab with Dayna Keyes', Dayna chats with Jack Grisham, the lead singer of the punk band t s o l and an accomplished author. With decades of sobriety under his belt, Jack brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to the table, making for a truly engaging conversation.
Dayna and Jack dive into the nitty-gritty of what it takes to stay sober long-term. They talk about the tough times when the initial high of quitting wears off, but the benefits haven't kicked in yet. Jack opens up about how it took him years to feel comfortable in his own skin and to accept himself fully. Dayna adds her own insights, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and dealing with old thought patterns that can sneak back in.
Faith plays a big role in their discussion. Jack shares how his strong faith has been a cornerstone in his recovery, helping him navigate the ups and downs. Dayna highlights that faith doesn't have to be religious; it can be faith in oneself or in something greater. Both agree that finding what works for you is crucial. The conversation also touches on the importance of the 12 steps in recovery.
Jack and Dayna both swear by these steps, crediting them for their transformations. They discuss how working through the steps has given them new perspectives and a sense of purpose. As they wrap up, the focus shifts to self-acceptance. Jack and Dayna both stress that accepting yourself, flaws and all, is a lifelong journey but an essential one for finding peace and happiness.
They encourage listeners to be patient and kind to themselves as they navigate their own paths to recovery. This episode is packed with heartfelt stories, practical advice, and a dash of humor, making it a must-listen for anyone touched by addiction.
