I think it's one of the jobs that keeps me focused on gratitude, I think, because I see how easily this can all disappear from me.
Renee's journey is a powerful testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome immense challenges. From a young age, Renee faced significant trauma, including abuse and neglect from her mother's partners. These early experiences led her down a path of addiction and self-destruction. As a teenager, she often ran away from home and engaged in risky behaviors, with her mother's overnight shifts providing ample opportunity for experimentation with drugs and alcohol.
Her addiction eventually resulted in the loss of her home and the custody of her children. Despite these setbacks, Renee's story is one of incredible resilience and self-awareness. She committed herself to recovery, recognizing the crucial role of peer support and medication-assisted treatment in her journey. Today, Renee works as a peer support worker, giving back to others while staying focused on gratitude.
