Reggie's Path to Recovery: Finding Strength in Connection

I had always just thought, well, I'll just grow out of this at one point, because grownups don't act like this. And but this voice came to me- I remember it in the train under The East River, and it said: you're not just going to grow out of this.
Reggie's story is a heartfelt journey through the highs and lows of addiction and recovery. Growing up, Reggie faced immense challenges, including the loss of his father to AIDS in the mid-90s. This tragedy left him grappling with deep resentment and a complex amends process. Reggie's battle with drugs and alcohol began at a young age, and despite numerous attempts to quit, he found himself trapped in a vicious cycle of relapse, each one worse than the last.
In this episode of 'Keep Coming Back: Real Stories of Sobriety & Recovery', Reggie opens up about his struggles and the pivotal moment when he realized he couldn't conquer addiction on his own. His journey led him to the 12-step program, where he discovered the power of connection and support from others who understood his plight.
Reggie candidly discusses the challenges of maintaining sobriety during the COVID-19 pandemic and how finding new ways to connect with his recovery community became essential. One of the most powerful aspects of Reggie's story is his honesty about the fear of opening up to others. He shares how difficult it was to let people in but also how liberating it felt once he did.
The 12-step program provided him with a safe space to confront his grief and resentment, ultimately helping him heal and move forward. Reggie's experience is a testament to the importance of seeking help and finding a supportive network. His story is a beacon of hope for anyone feeling lost in their battle with addiction. By embracing connection and the principles of the 12-step program, Reggie found a new way of living that brought him peace and fulfillment.
Tune in to hear Reggie's inspiring tale of resilience and recovery.
