Growing Resilience: How SMART Recovery Supports Teens and Young Adults

I will tell you that I actually ended up using the smart recovery tools with my own son. And this boy who used to be a little paranoid, he's the most chilled human being I know, so easy to get along with, and I have always credited smart recovery tools with that.
Imagine being a teenager, grappling with addiction and negative behaviors, and finding a lifeline in the form of SMART Recovery. This episode features Lorie Hammerstorm and Rae Grady, two dedicated onsite trainers who have made it their mission to guide teens and young adults toward healthier lives. Lorie, who has been with SMART since 2016, and Rae, who joined in 2019, share their unique experiences and the invaluable lessons they've learned along the way.
Lorie’s journey began in high school when she sought life goals beyond drugs and alcohol, a quest that eventually led her to SMART Recovery. Rae's background as a guidance counselor and crisis coordinator gave her the tools and empathy to support adolescents in need. Together, they discuss how SMART’s principles can be a game-changer for young people. They highlight the importance of building relationships and using positive self-talk to boost confidence and resilience.
The episode delves into why the school approach makes teens more comfortable in meetings and how music can be a powerful tool for connection. Lorie and Rae also open up about their own children's struggles, adding a deeply personal touch to their professional insights. They emphasize the critical skills trainers need to effectively work with teens and young adults, from communication to empathy.
This episode is a treasure trove of practical advice and heartfelt stories, making it a must-listen for anyone involved in the lives of young people battling addiction.
