Person Irresponsible: Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail to Sobriety

I don't know if I'm one of the chosen few or one of the few that chooses, but for whatever reason, I am in recovery and therefore I have now I know what I know, I have the responsibility to deal with it and I take very, very seriously.
What does it take to hike over 2,600 miles and stay sober? Meet Person Irresponsible, a Pacific Crest Trail Through Hiker, author, and dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous. In this episode of 'The Way Out', hosts Charlie and Jason sit down with PI (as she’s affectionately known) to discuss her remarkable journey from the Mexican border in California to the Canadian border in Washington State.
Not only did she conquer the grueling hike, but she also penned a book that blends travel adventures with reflections on her recovery journey. Person Irresponsible's story is packed with humor and heartfelt moments as she shares how hiking became a metaphor for her recovery process. She dives into the challenges she faced on the trail and how they mirrored her struggles with addiction.
PI talks about the vital role Alcoholics Anonymous played in her life, emphasizing the importance of sponsorship, prayer, and spirituality. She also highlights how working the 12 Steps and being part of a supportive fellowship helped her overcome trauma and stay on track. You'll hear about the ups and downs of her trek, the people she met along the way, and how each step brought her closer to sobriety.
PI's tale is not just about physical endurance but also about emotional and spiritual growth. She believes that recovery is both a choice and a responsibility, one that she embraces fully. This episode is a treasure trove of insights for anyone on their own path to sobriety or supporting someone who is. So lace up your boots and get ready for an inspiring hike through the wilderness of recovery.
