Paul DeJong: Triumph Over Chronic Pain and Parkinson's
I always make a goal: to touch one person a day
Growing up on a farm in Sheldon, Iowa, Paul DeJong learned early on the values of respect and hard work from his Christian family. His journey took an unexpected turn after earning his business marketing degree when he stumbled upon a temporary job at a rural garden center in Sioux Falls. This 'temporary' position blossomed into a 40-year career, culminating in Paul becoming the CEO of Landscape Garden Center.
But life had more in store for Paul than just business success. In his late 20s, a severe car accident left him with chronic pain and a permanent limp. Then, in his 40s, a brown recluse spider bite led to a near-fatal flesh-eating disease. Just when it seemed like things couldn't get tougher, Paul was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in his late 50s. Despite these immense challenges, Paul's story is one of resilience and unwavering positivity.
He stepped down from his role as CEO but never stepped back from life. Instead, he focused on what truly matters: his family, his community, and leaving a lasting positive impact. This episode of 'Fortitude' dives into Paul's incredible journey, revealing how he finds strength and purpose amidst adversity. Whether you're facing your own battles or supporting someone who is, Paul's story offers a beacon of hope and practical wisdom.
