Recovery is a journey of self-acceptance and seeking help is the first step towards a fulfilling sober life.
Michael's story is a compelling tale of early struggles and eventual triumph. His parents noticed something was off early in his life, leading to an introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) long before he was ready to embrace it. Imagine attending your first AA meeting while still intoxicated—this was Michael's reality. Over the years, he came to terms with his alcoholism, but not without pushing his family away and losing the trust of even his drinking buddies.
Probation led him to treatment, where he finally admitted his powerlessness over alcohol out loud for the first time. Michael's early days of sobriety were intense, living in what he describes as an 'AA bootcamp' with thirty other men. His sobriety date, 05 January 2013, marks the beginning of a new chapter in his life, with his home group being Young People in Greensboro, NC.
In this episode of the Boiled Owl AA Recovery Podcast, hosts Don and Sam guide us through Michael's journey, highlighting the importance of self-acceptance, seeking help after relapse, and the transformative power of sobriety. Through relatable stories and honest reflections, Michael's experience offers hope and insight for anyone on the path to recovery.
