Hunter's Road to Recovery: Lessons in Sobriety and Resilience
One of the things that I struggled with- and it has diminished since then- was picking up a One-Year medallion, because it was like you know shit. I've got Six Years since my sobriety reset, that new date. Well, at that point I totally fit in the beginner's workshop insofar as my sobriety date and how much time I had, but I went to the middle-timer's workshop because that's where I felt that that was my people.
Ever wondered what it takes to stay sober after a relapse? In this episode of the Boiled Owl AA Recovery Podcast, hosts Don and Sam chat with Hunter, whose story is both a cautionary tale and a beacon of hope. Hunter first got sober in 1996 through Narcotics Anonymous (NA), but he stumbled on his journey by not fully committing to the 4th step. This led him back to drinking in 2003.
Fast forward to 2006, Hunter found his way to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and decided to approach things differently. He opens up about the struggles he faced, including a significant relapse in 2017 after backing away from meetings and dealing with depression post-surgery. Despite these setbacks, Hunter's resilience shines through as he shares how he found his way back to sobriety and the AA community.
He now listens to 5th steps at a local treatment center and is a committed member of the Summit Fellowship Men's group in Greensboro, NC. His story underscores the importance of staying connected to the AA community and maintaining emotional sobriety. Hunter's journey is filled with valuable lessons on the dangers of complacency and the power of community support. If you're looking for inspiration and practical advice on staying sober, this episode is a must-listen.
