Charlene Madden: From Darkness to Light and Leadership

We can save someone else from having to go through the decades of pain and heartache that we have gone through by sharing a story and saying: hey, it's okay, I understand how you feel.
Charlene Madden's life story is a powerful testament to the human spirit's resilience. In this episode of 'Emerge. Evolve. Lead.', host Maureen Ross Gemme sits down with Charlene, who opens up about her journey from deep trauma to becoming a beacon of hope and leadership in her community. Charlene's path hasn't been easy—she endured over nine years of sexual abuse by her grandfather, a decade of domestic violence, and more than 30 years of battling mental illness and suicidal thoughts.
Her turning point came unexpectedly when she attended a women's workshop, which she initially joined to support a friend. The insights she gained there helped her remove her emotional blinders and start her healing process. Today, Charlene is not only sober but also a Reiki Practitioner and Women's Empowerment Coach. She's married, lives in British Columbia, and is a proud mother of three adult children.
Her story is a compelling mix of vulnerability and strength, making it relatable and inspiring for anyone in recovery or those who support someone on that journey. Charlene emphasizes the importance of community support, self-love, and spirituality in recovery. She believes that sharing personal stories can save others from enduring prolonged suffering.
As she poignantly states, 'We can save someone else from having to go through the decades of pain and heartache that we have gone through by sharing a story and saying: hey, it's okay, I understand how you feel'. If you're looking for a tale of transformation and the power of the human spirit, this episode offers both inspiration and practical wisdom.
