Shedding Old Beliefs: A Native Approach to Healing Addiction

Episode Overview

  • Healing addiction involves unlearning false beliefs and internalized suffering
  • The rational thinking mind can hinder the spiritual healing process
  • Understanding the impact of historical trauma and intergenerational wounds is crucial for recovery
  • Embracing nature and meditative practices can support the journey towards inner peace
  • The higher power plays a significant role in guiding individuals towards healing and self-realization
When we put that part of our mind aside and learn how to be still, the stillness is the stillness of the mind. The stillness of the mind, not thinking, not remembering, not planning, not judging, not finding fault, not examining what could have been done different. All that's aside and being still our mind that wants to think, wants to judge, wants to find fault, blame, see ourselves as victim, see ourselves as wounded, see ourselves as without, not enough, abandoned, abused, neglected, etc. This part of the mind is the self, the I, the ego, and it wants to continue to see the hurt, the pain, the abuse, neglect, the guilt, and the shame.
What if the key to healing addiction lies in embracing stillness and unlearning old beliefs? In this episode of 'Native Addiction Healing', Roland Martin, a seasoned drug and alcohol counselor at Empathic Lutotipi, shares his wisdom on overcoming addiction through indigenous practices. He highlights the limitations of our rational minds and underscores the importance of spiritual awakening in the journey to recovery.
Martin explores how historical trauma and intergenerational wounds contribute to addiction, urging listeners to let go of guilt and suffering. Through engaging stories and cultural insights, he guides us towards inner peace by reconnecting with nature, practicing meditation, and acknowledging a higher power. This episode is a heartfelt invitation to view addiction recovery through a lens of spiritual wholeness and cultural wisdom.
