I really, really believe that in the universe of alcoholics, the vast majority of alcoholics will never figure out that alcohol is their problem. Go to any skid row. Go to any place where they're really, really down and out, low-bottom drunks, and you ask them what the problem is, and they'll tell you, right? My wife cheated on me. I was molested, right? And they won't ever say alcohol. And those of us that are alcoholics that figure out that alcohol is a problem, what a rare group we are.
At the 2023 Fellowship of the Spirit Conference, Olis S. shared a story that resonates deeply with anyone on the path to recovery. In this episode of Mad Dog Recovery AA Speakers, Olis opens up about her initial doubts and skepticism about fitting into Alcoholics Anonymous. She candidly discusses how those doubts slowly melted away as she embraced the fellowship's principles and found a sense of belonging and purpose.
Olis’s journey is marked by her discovery of spirituality and the profound role it plays in sustainable recovery. Her heartfelt narrative emphasizes the power of selflessness and service, illustrating how these elements have been crucial in her own transformation. Through her story, Olis offers a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs that come with recovery, making it clear that personal growth and community support are at the heart of the AA experience.
