I wanted to stop the patterns in the family of alcoholism and drug addiction. My wife and I were both determined. I met, fell in love, and married my beautiful lover, best friend, amazing mother of our children, and life partner.
Imagine standing in front of nearly 100 people, all applauding your achievement of 40 years of sobriety. That's exactly what happened to Myles S. in this riveting episode of AA Recovery Interviews. Raised in a suburban family plagued by alcoholism, Myles' early life was far from easy. His mother battled the same disease but never sought help, and by the time his parents divorced when he was just 11, Myles was already on a path towards alcohol and drug dependency.
Despite the chaos at home, Myles found solace in working various jobs, which unfortunately funded his growing addiction. His ability to earn money paradoxically fueled his downward spiral, leading him to hit rock bottom emotionally and spiritually. It was at this low point that Myles finally asked for help. At 22, he entered an inpatient treatment center, followed by sober living and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). This marked the beginning of his extraordinary journey to long-term sobriety.
Myles' story is not just about overcoming addiction; it's about building a life worth living. His unwavering commitment to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) played a crucial role in his recovery, helping him build a fulfilling family life and a successful career. In this episode, he candidly shares his experiences and reflections, offering a powerful testament to the transformative power of recovery and the unwavering support of the AA community.
Whether you're newly sober, contemplating sobriety, or supporting someone on their journey, Myles' story offers invaluable insights and inspiration. It's a compelling narrative that underscores the resilience of the human spirit and the life-changing impact of committing to sobriety.
