You'll never have to feel this way again. It's pie in the sky when you're coming from having sat in front of psychiatrists and psychologists and taking all sorts of stuff to help it. And then you got these people that are happy, like they're happy and they're not drinking, which is very weird. And they want you to join the little thing that they got going on here. And I was desperate and hopeless and I joined and I did what they said because my way didn't work.
Picture this: you hit rock bottom and realize something has to change. That’s exactly what happened to Steve L. from Greensboro, North Carolina. In this episode of the AA Grapevine's Podcast, hosts Don and Sam sit down with Steve as he recounts the moment he knew his way wasn’t working anymore. It was April 21st, 1989, when he reached out to a friend who had been sober for a year in AA.
That day marked the beginning of Steve's incredible journey towards recovery. Steve dives into the importance of service work within the AA community, sharing how it has been a cornerstone of his sobriety. From starting a new group to balancing his commitments to family and work, Steve's story is a testament to the transformative power of AA. He talks about how being of service not only helped him stay sober but also gave him a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Listeners will also hear from Larry, Nancy, and Joe on the Listener Feedback Line, adding more voices to this rich tapestry of recovery stories. Steve’s dedication to helping others shines through his approach to sponsorship, where he emphasizes honesty, active participation, and sticking to the program's principles. This episode is not just about one man's recovery; it's about the broader impact of community support and the strength found in shared experiences.
Steve's reflections on balancing work, family, and AA commitments highlight how the program can fit into diverse lifestyles. Whether you're struggling with addiction or supporting someone who is, Steve's journey offers hope, practical advice, and a reminder that you never have to feel lost again.
