A Monday morning like this, I mean, I would have spent all day Sunday drinking and watching football. And then my giants unfortunately lost last night... I would have woke up this morning hung over in a bad mood dreading the week. You know, dreading what was in front of me. And what a 180 now when I wake up on a day like this and I'm like, oh man, Michael's coming into studio. We're going to sit face to face, shoot the shit for a while, learn about each other, hopefully inspire each other a little bit.
Imagine cruising through life, ticking off all the boxes: good job, happy marriage, and beautiful kids. That's where Michael O'Brien found himself until a life-altering cycling accident threw him off course. In this heartfelt episode of 'If I'm Being Honest,' host Dan Karaty sits down with Michael to unpack his journey from that fateful day to becoming a meditation teacher, executive coach, and endurance athlete.
On July 11, 2001, Michael's life took a dramatic turn when he was hit head-on by an SUV while training on his bike. Miraculously, he survived what he now calls his 'Last Bad Day.' But survival was just the beginning. The road to recovery was long and arduous, filled with physical and emotional hurdles. Michael shares how he shifted his mindset, adopting a daily mindfulness practice called Pause Breathe Reflect, which became the cornerstone of his new life.
Through their candid conversation, Dan and Michael explore the transformative power of gratitude and mindful living. They discuss how labeling life events can change our perspective and how embracing challenges can lead to profound personal growth. This episode is a treasure trove of insights for anyone grappling with life's ups and downs, offering a fresh perspective on resilience and the human spirit's capacity for change.
