The biggest thing I want to say is that, being a Latina, I think it's very important that we stick together, especially our first generation, to make that change that we want to see in our community. We're the ones that will bring the new flavor, the new ideas into our families and change the generations to come.
Imagine growing up in a world where talking about mental health and addiction is taboo. In this episode of 'Talksicology', hosts Jason and Joseph chat with Aleshka Ortiz, a Clinical Navigator at Recovery Unplugged, who faced exactly that. Raised in a Hispanic household in New Jersey, Aleshka experienced firsthand the cultural reluctance to discuss substance abuse and mental health issues. She bravely shares her personal story, from the impact of her divorce to the challenges of being a single mom.
But Aleshka's journey doesn't stop at her struggles; she is on a mission to break the stigma and encourage open conversations within her community. She believes that no one should suffer in silence or feel alone. With a sprinkle of light-hearted moments, like her love for Disney parks, this episode not only sheds light on serious issues but also offers hope and practical advice for those battling similar challenges.
If you're looking for an inspiring story that blends heartfelt honesty with actionable insights, this episode is a must-listen.
