Healing Together: The Medicine Wheel and 12 Steps Program

Sobriety to me is really the heart of recovery. It's very spiritual and it gives you so many ideas, because when we do go through the workbooks, we write a lot of the things down, we do a lot of mapping, and that's where we come down to answers for ourselves, and it's about inner healing for ourselves as well and breaking that cycle for the rest of our families and friends.
Imagine a recovery journey that embraces both spiritual and cultural dimensions. That's what the Medicine Wheel and 12 Steps program offers, and it's beautifully explored in this episode of the Voices In Recovery Podcast. Hosted by David Lewry, the episode features heartfelt conversations with Heather Morgeau and Marilyn Shingoose, two dedicated facilitators of this transformative program. They share how this unique blend of indigenous teachings and the 12-step methodology creates a holistic path to healing for everyone, regardless of background.
The program is free and open to all, with separate groups for men and women, and plans to include two-spirit and non-binary groups soon. Heather and Marilyn discuss how the Medicine Wheel's focus on interconnectedness helps participants delve deep into their personal journeys while fostering community support. They highlight the importance of creating safe, non-judgmental spaces where kindness prevails. Through group discussions, mapping exercises, and workbook activities, participants find meaningful ways to address their struggles with addiction and trauma.
The facilitators emphasize that this program is not just about individual recovery but also about breaking cycles of addiction within families and communities. If you're looking for a recovery approach that respects cultural nuances and spiritual needs, this episode offers invaluable insights.
