I met other folks, you know, not from the retreat, but I met other folks that were in recovery and they're telling their stories. And the more I told my story, like, it released a lot of the shame because I knew I wasn't alone.
Imagine losing a parent in the line of duty at a young age. For Captain Matt Bloesch, this was his reality. In this heartfelt episode, Matt shares his journey from grappling with the sudden loss of his father to finding solace in alcohol. As a full-time law enforcement captain in California, Matt faced immense personal and professional challenges. His father's death, caused by an accidental discharge of a weapon, left a void that he tried to fill with alcohol.
But as the episodes unfold, you'll hear how Matt confronted his dependency and began his path to recovery. A pivotal moment came when he got involved with Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), an organization that played a crucial role in his healing process. Through retreats and peer support, Matt found a community that understood his pain and helped him navigate through it. This episode isn't just about the struggles; it's about resilience, hope, and the power of connection.
Whether you're a first responder, know someone who is, or are simply interested in stories of overcoming adversity, Matt's story offers valuable insights and inspiration.
