Mark D.'s Journey: Two Years Sober and Counting

Today god is everything or else he's nothing and I choose to believe he's everything and he's, you know, my sobriety, the fear I don't want to lose, that it's a gift and, and I can help people, sober or not, like the guys that are married and they do service work by being a good dad or being a good husband.
Ever wondered how someone manages to turn their life around after years of battling addiction? Mark D.'s story is a powerful example. With just two years of sobriety under his belt, Mark's experience offers a fresh and relatable perspective for those who are new to Alcoholics Anonymous. Raised by divorced parents, Mark's early years were filled with the kind of fears and loneliness that many can relate to.
By his teens, alcohol became his escape, and soon, it took over his life. College years were a blur of parties and daily drinking, compounded by food and work addictions. Owning his own company gave him the freedom to indulge in alcohol and Adderall without anyone holding him accountable. But hitting rock bottom changed everything. After a particularly dark moment, Mark decided he had to quit drinking for himself.
He found his way to AA in late 2020 and has been committed ever since. His initial attempts at sobriety were shaky; he struggled with the steps and resisted getting a sponsor. However, as he connected with the AA community, he realized the importance of support. Finding a sponsor who pushed him to work through the steps was a game-changer. One of Mark's biggest challenges was mending the relationships damaged by his alcoholism.
He knew he had hurt many people and needed to make amends. Through the steps and service work, he began to give back to the community and rebuild trust. Mark's story underscores the power of AA and the importance of community, accountability, and belief in a higher power. As he puts it, 'Today god is everything or else he's nothing and I choose to believe he's everything'.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, Mark's journey might just offer the hope and inspiration needed to seek help.
