Owen's Journey: Supporting a Loved One Through Addiction Recovery

I'm a bit unusual in a way that I don't think addiction is an illness, I don't think it's a disease, I don't think it's genetic, I think it is based in childhood trauma, and that's my starting point really.
How does addiction affect not just the individual, but their entire family? In this episode of 'Let's Recover Together', Owen steps into the studio to share his unique perspective as a family member of someone in recovery. His story begins with the excitement of a new relationship, only to turn into anxiety and stress as his partner's weekend partying spiraled into addiction.
Owen's candid discussion reveals the toll this took on him and how he sought solace and understanding through family support groups at The Living Room in Cardiff. As his partner found recovery, Owen also embarked on his own journey of self-discovery. He attended Family Group meetings and eventually trained to become a Recovery Coach. Now, he facilitates family group therapy sessions, helping others navigate the complexities of addiction within their families.
Owen's insights challenge traditional views on addiction, emphasizing the importance of communication, non-judgmental support, and addressing childhood trauma. This episode is a heartfelt reminder of the ripple effects of addiction and the healing power of honesty and vulnerability in relationships.
