There is no correct way to recover, but there are different ways. My way was a little different. It was very difficult at first because I was a person who consumed daily. But practicing humility and accepting that I cannot consume has helped me a lot in bad situations.
Ever wondered how family bonds can be a lifeline in recovery? In this episode of Recovery Corner, host Lex sits down with Mauro Martínez Morales to unpack his journey from addiction to sobriety. Growing up with a father in recovery, Mauro still found himself drawn to alcohol at a young age. His story takes a turn as he discovers the strength of reconnecting with his family, which becomes a cornerstone in his path to healing.
Mauro opens up about the unique hurdles faced by the Latino community, such as the cultural acceptance of drinking, societal stigma, and the pressures of machismo and marianismo. These elements add layers of complexity to his recovery journey. He also touches on the lack of Spanish-language resources and the critical need for culturally sensitive support systems. Through self-awareness and community backing, Mauro shows how embracing one's cultural identity can be a powerful tool in overcoming addiction.
