When you have that moment of clarity and you don't want to live like this and you don't have to go through what Elaine did for 55 years, call that person. The moment of clarity is God put that person there. I don't care who it is, a liquor store guy. I don't want to fucking live like this. Make the call and just say, hey, fucking help me. I surrender. I'm willing to go to any length and just make that call and then take direction and understand that because whatever you've been doing, this thing is broken. You cannot fix it. You cannot do it alone.
Imagine turning a life marred by addiction, homelessness, and trauma into one of advocacy and hope. That's exactly what Lang Martinez from Oxnard, California, has done. Known for his peer-to-peer approach, Lang walks the same streets where he once struggled, now holding his head high as a dedicated advocate for the homeless and survivors of sexual abuse.
In this episode, Lang shares his powerful journey of overcoming childhood trauma and addiction, shedding light on the profound impact these experiences can have on one's life. Despite facing risky behavior, imprisonment, and chronic homelessness throughout his adult years, Lang has managed to rebuild his life. Celebrating five years of sobriety, he continues to inspire others with his unwavering passion for helping those still struggling.
His work with the National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse (NAASCA) and various media outlets highlights the importance of community support and the transformative power of recovery. Lang's story is not just about personal triumph; it's a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the belief that recovery is possible for anyone willing to seek help.
